Missions

Jonesville United Methodist Church has established a covenant relationship for an initial period of one year with Belinda Forbes, a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church serving in Managua, Nicaragua. A covenant relationship is more than a financial agreement between a missionary and a church. It is a dynamic parti- cipation involving communication and deepening awareness of the struggles and successes of the missionary and how the church can support and assist him or her in their work.

Belinda is assigned to work with Accion Medica Cristiana (AMC), a Nicaraguan Christian ecumenical organization that specializes in community health and development in impoverished, rural communities. A dentist by profession, Belinda coordinates a community based primary dental health program as well as being part of the greater AMC organization.

Although born in Northern Ireland, Belinda was raised and educated in Massachusetts. She obtained a B.A. in biology and Spanish from American International College in Springfield, Ma., and a D.M.D. from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston. She is also a very dynamic and great person! according to Barb Phillips and Gwyn Sundell who met her while on a VIM trip to Nicaragua two years ago. She is married to Gerardo Gutierrez, M.D. who is the director of AMC's Community
Health Program. They live in Managua and have two daughters.
